Fall Classic Game 7 Draws 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canada and Japanese Markets.

The thrilling extended matchup that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers overcome the Blue Jays by one run drew a total 51M viewers in the US, Canadian, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this marks the most-watched Fall Classic Game 7 since the 1991 contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

The Saturday epic contest drew over 27 million audience members on Fox Sports channels, its Spanish-language channel and their digital services. Per ratings data, it was the second highest-rated program of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched World Series matchup after the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew 29.07 million. This represents a sixteen percent increase compared to the last finale between the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which attracted 23.19 million.

In the Nielsen ratings, the sixth game ranked 4th, the fourth game was seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

Global Audience Figures

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6M watchers on Sportsnet and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English broadcast in Canada after the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In Japan, where the final game started at 9 PM in the local time zone, it attracted 12M. This came after the previous Friday’s sixth game – where World Series MVP Yamamoto gave up a single run in six innings – recorded over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in Japan.

Series Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded 15.71 million audience members on the Fox network, a 2% increase from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time since 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded audience increases for two consecutive years.

Including the Game 1 broadcast on the Univision network, the total US average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1M in the Canadian market.
